Give your old car seat a new purpose

Give your old car seat a new purpose

Baby Bunting is dedicated to enhancing the sustainability of our operations and we are excited to be trialing a car seat recycling program!  Our trial ends in April 2027 and our goal is to recycle 2,400 car seats, preventing approx. 12 tonnes of expired or damaged child car seat material from ending up in landfill.

We need your help

We're asking for your help to reduce this wastage and create a greener future together by recycling your seat with us.

Recycle and repurpose

Recycled car seats are processed into materials that are then repurposed to create a range of products, including playground equipment and garden pots.

Recycling is free alongside any capsule, convertible or booster car seat purchase. If you prefer to simply drop-off your old seat, we kindly ask for a $15 service fee per seat to help cover some of the recycling costs and Baby Bunting will cover the rest.

The car seat recycling trial is currently available at 9 of our Victorian stores:

  • Burnside
  • Chirnside Park
  • Cranbourne
  • Frankston
  • Hawthorn
  • Maribyrnong
  • Narre Warren
  • Thomastown
  • Mentone

How does it work?

1. Visit a Store

Visit any of our eight participating trial stores and inform one of our friendly team members that you have a car seat (or seats) for recycling.

2. Purchase or Pay

The team member will take possession of your old seat free of charge if purchasing a new capsule, convertible or booster car seat. Otherwise, they will arrange a $15 recycling service fee.

3. Done!

That’s it - your old seats will be on their way to their next lives as playground equipment, garden pots and more.

Car Seat Recycling FAQs

For all car seats: FREE with any capsule, convertible or booster car seat purchase. Otherwise, $15 (we cover the balance of the cost, contributing this amount and more).

There is no limit, but if you have more than 10 seats to recycle we ask thar you contact the store prior to visiting to drop them off.

Around 80% of the car seat materials can be recycled, which includes all plastics, metal and foam.

The seats will be processed at recycling facilities in Melbourne and made into a virgin substitute flake or resin that can be used to make a range of new products, including playground equipment, garden pots and more.

We can accept any brand of baby capsule, convertible seat, and booster seat.

Please note, if the seat is deemed unsafe to handle, the team member will politely inform you that, unfortunately, it cannot be accepted.
